In 1965 after a meeting with the community of watts, Eartha Kitt founded Kittsville. After starting in a small gymnasium, it soon outgrew its original location at the Westminster neighborhood association. The program then moved to various Los Angeles city recreation and parks locations, which provided the facilities for Kittsville for over 20 years. In 1996, Kittsville found a permanent residence at Bret Harte middle school that lasted for a decade. Kittsville has been in its present location, Washington Preparatory High School, since November 2006
For over 44 years, this organization has proven to be a vital part of the community. With a professional staff, parents and community involvement, Eartha Kitt has developed an outstanding cultural arts program. Its success continues to be evident in the high levels of performances achieved by its participants. The program is free of charge and is open to children age 5 to 20 years old.
